Electrical Testing can provide a range of nondestructive testing (NDT) methods to assess your lighting columns. The list below provides details on the different methods used and the purpose of each.
Dipstik Technology®
Our structural inspection and testing service is a ‘top to toe’ assessment of a street lighting column, above and below ground, to check for any risk of structural collapse. Visual external inspection of the column’s bracket, shaft and base section is augmented where appropriate by our CCTV probe for a full internal examination, which includes the underground root section.
Our revolutionary dipstik® technology means the condition of the vital root section of a metal street lighting column can be assessed by measuring the wall thickness to depths of two metres without the need for excavation. A full and detailed analysis of the hidden and potentially vulnerable ‘hot swaged joint’ is carried out as part of the risk process.
Our Structural Inspection Activity, utilising the dipstik®, helps asset owners satisfy their obligations and legal responsibilities for safely maintaining their Highway Electrical Assets.
Reporting and data management complies with the Institution of Lighting Professionals GN22 Guidance Note and our extended services provide retrospective compliance to BSEN40.
Finally our reporting is provided by the comprehensive ‘Easyweb’ system, a complete paperless system that is available on Desktop and Mobile application.”
Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)
Magnetic particle testing is a non-destructive testing technique utilised to detect defects such as cracks at or near the surface in metals. The technique uses a magnetic field, combined wi the the placation of fine magnetic particles to reveal defects. Clicking on the picture will show the crack in the column door identified after the testing has taken place.
This technique is useful for detection of cracks in cast iron columns.
Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
Ultrasonic testing is a non-destructive testing technique that utilizes high-frequency sound waves to detect imperfections in metal materials, as well as changes in properties within the materials that could cause problems or failure of the component being tested.
Ultrasonic is used when carrying out BSEN40 designs.
HYDRAJAWS
Using the Hydrajaws tension tester, we can establish safe working loads and validate the correct installation of existing fixings.
This service can be used for eye bolts and wall brackets supporting catenary for festive lights, decorations and other suspended purposes.
